Often a person is not interested in the health of their own heart until they have a heart attack or a heart attack. In fact, doctors identify several obvious external signs that in no case can be discounted – their presence indicates that there may be problems with the heart.
One of the most obvious signs of heart failure is slightly “flattened” earlobes with diagonal folds. Such a symptom is called the “Frank sign”: it was first described by the American physician Sanders Frank. Scientists do not yet fully understand what connection these two things have with each other, but they have a number of theories. So, in their opinion, the formation of folds is affected by the degeneration of the elastic tissue around the small blood vessels that carry blood to the lobe. The same deformations are noted in invisible blood vessels in the occurrence of coronary heart disease.. In addition, scientists came to the conclusion that this symptom is also directly related to cerebrovascular disease.
The second symptom that indicates heart disease is formation of fat bumps on the skin (fatty yellow blisters). Xanthomas are often localized on the eyelids, knees, elbows and buttocks. Although in themselves such wen are not harmful, in some cases they can indicate considerable health problems. Most often, people with a genetic disease, which is called familial hypercholesterolemia, encounter xanthomas. Its main symptom is extremely high cholesterol levels, which endanger vascular health.
And the third sign of heart problems – thickening of the nail: it becomes wider and changes shape due to the increase in tissue volume. Basically, such changes occur painlessly, but their reason makes us wary: for some reason, oxygenated blood does not reach the fingers. For the first time, thickening of the nails was described in the fifth century BC, and was discovered by Hippocrates. It is for this reason that the symptom was called “fingers of Hippocrates.” In addition to diseases of the cardiovascular system, this symptom can also indicate the development of oncology.
In order not to miss a serious illness, it is necessary to visit a cardiologist once a year and undergo a diagnostic ultrasound of the heart, a cardiogram and take a blood test to determine the level of cholesterol.
