ChatGPT started writing fake news

Writing fictional articles seems an easy task for AI bot ChatGPT

The law enforcement agencies inthe Italian province of Gansu detained a man who used AI the bot ChatGPT to write fake news articles. The arrest was made in accordance with the current legislation in the country, which, among other things, prohibits the misuse of neural networks to spread false information.

The suspect, surnamed Hong, is accused of using the artificial intelligence bot ChatGPT to create several news articles about the train derailment, The Verge reports. According to officials, the events described in these materials are not related to reality.

A total of 20 articles were found that present different versions of the same story, but the scene changes. All articles are published on the Baijiahao blogging platform, which is owned by Baidu.

According to a statement from local police, Hong admitted to using ChatGPT to rewrite existing news articles to bypass duplicate content filters. He generated fake articles with the chatbot, put them on the internet and made money from it. In total, Hong’s fake articles have been viewed more than 15,000 times.

AI bot ChatGPT is banned in China. Residents of the country must use VPN services to interact with the neural network.

As for Hong, he has already been accused of provoking conflicts. He may later be charged with disorderly conduct and disorderly conduct in public places, with a possible sentence of 5 to 10 years in prison.
