Disgust can be useful – Digikar

The experts decided to figure out whether disgust helps people or is it a useless human property.

Scientists believe that disgust protects people from infectious diseasesand they explained why.

Scientists from England believe that the feeling of disgust appeared in our distant ancestors as a defense mechanism against diseases and injuries of the body. This conclusion was made by experts during the study of this sensation in modern people.

To obtain the necessary data, scientists conducted a survey to find out what arouses disgust in different people. It turned out that disgust was formed in people as a reaction to the fear of damaging the body or contracting a disease.

The experiment involved 2,500 volunteers. They were participants in an online survey. Volunteers rated their level of disgust in a variety of situations. For example, they had to rate how disgusting other people’s coughs or blows were.

After processing the information received, it turned out that most of all disgust manifests itself when looking at wounds, especially with pus. Volunteers also feel disgusted if other people smell bad and with similar deviations from hygiene standards.

The scientists also noted that the feeling of disgust is associated not only with the fear of contracting a disease and damaging the body, but also with the actions that the ancestors did when confronted with the factors of disgust.

For example, it is better to bypass a person who smells bad, and it is better not to touch purulent wounds and rashes.

In addition, it was found that women are more squeamish than men, who are more risk-averse than the fair sex.

Despite the fact that people’s squeamishness is developed at the level of instincts, it is important that it is not of a large-scale nature.

If people cannot live without antiseptics, they are afraid to touch handles and handrails in a public place, there is a possibility of developing a mental pathology that requires the intervention of a psychologist.
