Bosch Bulgaria’s consolidated sales on the local market reached BGN 576 million (EUR 295 million) for the financial year 2023, which is a 57% increase compared to the previous year, it became clear yesterday at an event in Sofia Tech Park, where the company celebrated 30 years presence in our country.

“Our high achievements are the result of the hard work of all divisions, the efforts of our R&D units and software engineers”, commented Konstantin Konov, CEO of Robert Bosch Bulgaria and representative of the Bosch Group in our country.

98 percent of the company’s profits are reinvested in technologies that change people’s lives. At the same time, Bosch’s code of ethics explicitly prohibits the company from developing technologies for military purposes and from working with companies that make such technologies, Konov added.

“Eight years ago, we opened Bosch Digital here, and five years ago, the Bosch Engineering Center was established, where more than 600 highly qualified software engineers are already working, creating the car of the future. We create unique things and have projects for the biggest car manufacturers”, Konov said.

The company invests over 1 million euros per year in employee training in our country. “Our goal is to make Bosch the most desirable employer in the field of high technology in Bulgaria,” he emphasized.

On a group scale, by 2025, Bosch will invest 10 billion euros in the digitalization of the business, it became clear from the presentation of Sinisa Djukic, director of Bosch Digital. For this purpose, the company works in three main directions:

  • New products and technologies in the field of automotive sustainability – Industry 4.0
  • Low carbon economy
  • Investing in people

By the end of 2025, every Bosch-branded product must include artificial intelligence or be created with the help of AI, Dzukic added. The number of Bosch products with artificial intelligence is expected to reach 1 billion soon. “Artificial intelligence will change the way we work with customers and the way we work ourselves,” he added.

Generative AI technologies are increasingly entering products and processes. This shows that there will be fundamental changes in our lives, commented Dzukic. The way products are developed, the way customers are communicated and worked with will change.

For the first time in Bulgaria, the company will implement a training program on the use of generative AI for software development. There are over 60 business processes in the various divisions of Bosch in which the generative AI systems have already been implemented, Djukic specified.

The topic of artificial intelligence was the focus of the discussion that took place during the event. The concept of AI is not new, but the technology will develop mainly in two aspects, commented Djukic, according to whom systems are self-learning by processing huge volumes of data. Second, they can create new content of very high quality that is above the average level created by humans.

Another area where AI will be particularly relevant is the creation of user content, websites and internal company documentation. One of the areas where the change will be felt most strongly is the relationship with customers and suppliers, and this requires processing huge amounts of data.

According to Ivaylo Rashev, executive director of Bosch Home Appliances, a revolution is taking place today in two directions: artificial intelligence and sustainability.

“In 2020, Bosch became the first company in the world to achieve carbon neutrality in its own production processes. Another focus is the judicious use of water. Living sustainably is our global policy, and this means achieving climate neutrality, reducing indirect emissions and combating water scarcity. All this will lead to direct benefits for consumers”, Rashev said.

Panayot Nikolov, Commercial Director of Automotive Equipment, was adamant that lifelong learning will be the leading trend in the near future. Digital skills will become increasingly important. Specialists in car repair shops, for example, will have to be continuously trained, especially from the point of view of the electrification of cars, said Nikolov.

And according to Dinko Rusev, engineering director of Bosch Engineering Center Sofia, with the introduction of AI technologies, cars are becoming more and more secure. He predicts that within 30 years, cars will be fully autonomous and become the primary means of transportation, freeing up people’s time for other activities.

The youngest participant in the discussion was nine-year-old Ivo Kirkov, who is also the youngest member of Mensa Bulgaria. According to him, in 30 years cars will be autonomous, and artificial intelligence will be highly developed.

A spectacular finale of the anniversary event was a demonstration of the calibration of an autonomous driving system, as well as the autonomous driving itself, emergency braking and parking of high- and medium-class cars using software developed by the Bosch Engineering Center.
