LEÓN, Mexico- Mexican actress Vanessa Bauche spoke out this Saturday about the gender-based violence case she suffered during the taping of the Netflix series “War of Neighbors” (2021), in as part of the Zero Violence Against Women conference held at the Guanajuato International Film Festival.
“In this series produced by Alazraki and Fernando Sariñana, I was attacked for a month and a half by the actor who played my husband (Pascacio López), who eight months earlier had already been denounced in the media, unfortunately not by the corresponding channels,” he mentioned during the conference the actress of “Amores perro” (2000).
The activist also assured that when she discovered that her companion would be a man who had two informal complaints of violence against women, she spoke with Sariñana and Carolina Rivera, wife of the director and also creator of the series, to tell her that she doesn’t think it was fair that Pascacio (López) was on the team.
“They said to me, ‘Do you want me to take his job away? He said, ‘Well, that’s my darling, how do you see? It’s my favourite,’” he recalled the words Sariñana had given him.
WHY DID YOU CONTINUE IN THE PROJECT?
The actress confessed that among the reasons she decided to continue in the project were the need to work for the support of her and her family and because it was the first leading role of her career (of more than 30 years of experience) with whatever the series offered him the opportunity to open spaces to more brunette women over 40 who only have 0.001% representation as main characters in Mexican audiovisual projects .
On March 22, a trial was opened for Pascacio López for the alleged crime of rape after actress Sarah Nichols, also a participant in the project, accused him of the crime of rape. Nichols was not the only victim, as Bauche filed a violation of human dignity complaint for workplace violence against the actor and accused him of sexually abusing her, forcing her to kiss him during shooting.
“There were ‘cats’ where they bet on all the women from all the departments (…) this man made a bet to see who would fuck me first because he said that I was very serious (…) he made sounds with sexual connotations in front of children, misogynistic jokes supported by another actor, he never respected the isolation and we were in the first wave of the pandemic at the risk of our lives,” he said. he commented.
The assaults escalated to a forced kiss that didn’t contemplate the script during one of the scenes in the project that brought her to a state of anxiety that she says she didn’t have never experienced before and which so far keeps her in therapy.
He also mentioned that during the recording process, multiple complaints started coming to Netflix’s human resources office from the team, which brought to light for all to see the violence with which López behaved.
“Fernando Sariñana asked me not to file a complaint, “not to spit on it” (scandal) because they were going to withdraw the project from us, I told him that I knew the laws, that I was with an agenda genre for 20 years. years,” she recalls.
The success of the series was imminent, so the second season was accepted and despite all the disputes, Pascacio López was considered for the second part by the producers, so Bauche decided not to continue.
“I had to go down when I found out they wanted to call him and they called him. Mr. Sariñana was madly in love with this man who was coming back to show that he could do more than be a fucking short, (problematic) pedophile, crazy,” because that’s how he spoke to me (Sariñana). Black hair, he said, ‘nacos clips’ and that he called us, ”he assured.
During the interview, the actress gave advice to the women present to avoid this type of violence that she suffered and invited them to file a complaint with the authorities: “Silence kills, rewards the crime and makes you accomplice by omission, let us not be accomplices in the crime,” he concluded.
