Friendship with an ex linked to mental health problems – Digikar

Scientists from the University of Auckland came to the conclusion that the desire to maintain friendship with former lovers is much more insidious than it seems at first glance: such a craving for friendships may indicate some mental disorders.

Specialists conducted a large-scale study, in which more than 860 respondents were interviewed. All subjects answered in detail a series of questions about past

relationships and talked about the reasons that influenced the decision to remain friends with their ex-partners. Plus, each of the volunteers passed a special psychological test that reveals a person’s tendency to narcissism, psychopathy and Machiavellianism.

As the results of the study showed, people with a mental disorder show a desire to maintain friendship with former lovers many times more often. To further understand the reasons for this behavior, the researchers asked the subjects to name five main factors in connection with which they wish to maintain friendships with ex-partners.

After analyzing the answers of the participants in the experiment, experts found that the main goal of men who show a desire to be friends with former partners is banal sex.

As for the representatives of the beautiful half of humanity, they take such a step because of a strong sentimental attachment. According to experts, such friendships are almost always based on the desire for personal gain and satisfaction of their own needs. In addition, according to the survey, people almost never take into account the feelings of their former lovers.
