Important announcement from Zoom to Mac users!
According to a report, the popular cloud-based video conferencing service had to fix a major vulnerability that allowed malicious people to gain access to someone’s Mac PC. This was a major security flaw that would have allowed hackers to take control of their systems. Apparently, this vulnerability was caused by the automatic updater software of the Zoom application, which has root-level access to the system. This software only had a signature verification system that could be easily fooled by giving your package a familiar filename.
In other words, a hacker could potentially force your app to downgrade or otherwise enable exploits. The vulnerability was first discovered by Objective-See Foundation (OSF) creator and researcher Patrick Wardle. Wardle informed Zoom about this vulnerability in December 2021. Now the company has officially fixed this issue, but the patch also introduced another bug. However, this was also recently fixed by Zoom.
