The Institute of Electronics “Acad. Emil Dzakov” (IE) received an honorary GOLD plaque of the BAS on the occasion of his 60th anniversary. The award is for outstanding achievements in the fields of materials science, nanosciences, quantum optics and biomedical photonics.

The Institute of Electronics team is building a new generation of scientists with high potential and ambition. Among the scientists’ activities are specific applications in the field of improving the quality of people’s lives and the sustainable development of society, emphasized the BAS.

In the last 5 years, the scientific results of the institute’s activities have been reflected in over 750 publications, said the director Assoc. Tatiana Kutsarova at the celebration and added that the scientists are actively developing innovation activities, as last year alone they were the authors of 9 active invention patents and 6 for a useful model.

Currently, 13 PhD students are being trained at the Institute of Electronics, three of the young scientists having completed their education abroad and started their scientific career at IE.

Awards were presented in four categories at the ceremony. The award for the best scientific achievement for 2022 went to a team led by Prof. Katja Vutova, the award for the best scientific and applied achievement for 2022 went to a team led by Assoc. Prof. Albena Daskalova, ch. assistant Dr. Tsanislava Atanasova was awarded as the best young scientist, and the award for the most successful scientific project was awarded to a team led by Assoc. Prof. Tanya Draishu.

Dr. Tsanislava Atanasova presented her scientific research in the field of biophotonics. She is part of a team that uses optical methods to increase the quality of life. Developments are related to the interaction of light with biological tissue, and can be used for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes.
