iPhone 14 Pro could be the start of a disappointing trend – Digikar

Leaks and rumors suggest the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max will be hugely exciting handsets, but the standard iPhone 14 could be disappointing, not just because it’s likely cluttered with a dated design , but because it might not even get a new chipset .

It might not be a unique case either, with one source claiming the iPhone 15 might also have older silicon.

That’s according to a post on Weibo (opens in a new tab) – a Chinese social network. The post was spotted by GizChina (opens in a new tab), and it says the iPhone 15 will get the A16 chipset we expect to see in the iPhone 14 Pro lineup, while the iPhone 15 Pro will get a new chipset A17.

In other words, next year’s standard iPhone would likely have a newer chipset than the next iPhone 14 – which would be stuck with the A15 of the iPhone 13 lineup – but it would still be a year behind the Apple’s best mobile processor.

The source doesn’t say if this trend will continue beyond the iPhone 15, but we’ve already heard from Ming-Chi Kuo (opens in a new tab) — an analyst with an excellent track record for Apple Information — that it is. expected to be an ongoing situation.

So while we’ll take this claim with a pinch of salt, the fact that two leakers have now stated that the latest chipsets will be for Pro models only suggests that there’s a good chance this is true.

That said, it’s very early to talk about the iPhone 15, let alone subsequent iPhones, so even though that’s Apple’s current plan, it could still change. We hope that will be the case, because even the standard models are premium handsets, so it’s hard to justify them using year-old hardware.


Analysis: damage but not serious

While this is disappointing news, it’s actually unlikely to be a big deal, as Apple’s mobile chipsets already significantly outperform their rivals.

So even though the iPhone 14 and iPhone 15 each launch with dated Apple hardware, there’s a good chance they’ll perform comparably to phones using the best chipsets from companies like Qualcomm and Samsung.

Also, it can be said that all the best mobile chipsets deliver more power than most users actually need, so in general the difference is unlikely to be noticeable.

Still, even if the difference mostly only exists on paper, it could make the standard iPhone models much less appealing to potential buyers. But that may be the whole point, as Apple may be looking to boost the popularity of the Pro line.

Whatever the reasoning, we think it might also inspire some Apple fans to check out the best Android phones.
