Microsoft plans to end support for the Cortana voice assistant in the Windows operating system. The software giant said, as quoted by The Verge, that Cortana will be phased out as a standalone Windows app later this year.

The announcement of the end of support for Cortana on Windows hardly comes as a surprise. In May this year, Microsoft announced the Windows Copilot tool, which is a full-fledged AI assistant. According to the available information, it will be placed in the sidebar of Windows 11 and will be available for calling in the process of working with any applications.

With this AI assistant, users will be able to perform various tasks including generating text messages. Obviously, Windows Copilot is supposed to replace the Cortana assistant, which has not established itself as a popular product among users.

The Cortana voice assistant for Windows 10 was introduced in 2015. The tool could be used for reminders, launching apps and performing other actions through voice commands.

While support for Cortana on Windows will end this year, the voice assistant will remain available in Outlook Mobile, Microsoft Teams Mobile and some other company products.
