Nintendo Explains Why We Have Batteries In Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom

You already know that Nintendo has met internally with those responsible for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Now we get interesting statements from the fourth part of the interview.

Ask the developer vol. 9, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom – Chapter 2

Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

In the meeting, the developers have explained why they decided to include the battery system in this installment. We leave you with his words:

Doha: In terms of features, one of the things we didn’t include in the last game was “magic”. Previously, we had a stamina wheel for physical actions, but there was no equivalent to a “magic gauge”. This time, however, we wanted to incorporate that feature, so we added another unique ability: Zonnan’s Magical Devices. As you can see in Aonuma-san’s gameplay demo video, you can generate wind or move objects with a Zonnan device. Using this power, for example, you can even create something absurd, like an “omnidirectional flamethrower.” There are plenty of times when you can cheat in a good way.

Aunuma: Well, you say magic indicator – its visual is actually a battery. (laughs)

Takizawa: The initial concept of this game was to use the “supernatural power” of an unknown civilization, unlike the “super ancient technology” of the Sheikah civilization in the previous game, so we decided to create many useful items with magical properties. However, even if we describe these items as “supernatural,” players won’t use them unless they know what they are. So this thing we called “magic” eventually became… ahem, an electric fan.

Takizawa: Since we felt it was important for our players to understand those elements at a glance, our designers ended up creating various appliances. (laughs) Finding ways to introduce them as something supernatural in the world of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild was quite a challenge. It was a great opportunity for us designers to put our skills to the test. (laughs)

Aunuma: If players are shown something they have never seen in real life, they will have no idea how to use it. But if it looks like an everyday item, they will intuitively understand how it should be used. Having these elements in the world of this Legend of Zelda game where magic exists worked, surprisingly.

What is your opinion? Do not hesitate to leave it in the comments. Remember that Tears of the Kingdom will be released on May 12, 2023 with some gifts for booking it.
