Microsoft will make the new version 2.0 of the popular collaboration application Teams a client default for the Windows operating system this year, the topic web resource Windows Central reported.

Earlier this year, Microsoft announced a new version of Teams that has higher performance and less consumption of system resources. Now it has become clear that the Teams 2.0 client will replace the standard version of the application on Windows.

Teams 2.0 is currently in beta, missing some of the features in the app’s desktop client. But Teams 2.0 will be improved later this year, after which it will replace the classic Windows app.

“The new Teams is missing some features that were supported in classic Teams. Later this calendar year, we’ll make the new Teams the default client. This will happen when we have feature parity and are confident that users can migrate to the new Teams,” said Anupam Patnaik, lead specialist for Teams at Microsoft.

In addition, Microsoft developers will release a beta version of Teams 2.0 for the macOS platform, as well as a web version of the application.
