Teracrystallization Could Have Been Introduced Over 23 Years Ago In The Pokemon Anime

The next title Pokemon Scarlet and Purple brings with it a new mechanic called teracrystallizationwhere the Pokémon they get a shiny crystal look with changes and buffs to apply in combat. Well, this mechanic could have already been used in the series many years ago.

The user of Twitter, PokeBeachhas released an image where you can see a crystal Onix in episode 87 of the anime of Pokémon back in 1999, 23 years ago. Here, Ash and his group of friends encountered a special Crystal Onix that was resistant to Water-type attacks, though weak to Fire-types. Although not exactly the same concept as the teracrystallizationYes, it does have some similarities.

Other fans have indicated that this Crystal Onix refers more to regional variants than to the new mechanic introduced in Pokemon Scarlet and Purplealthough there are similarities between the two.
