The amount of RAM in smartphones is increasing. If earlier 18 GB were considered a maximum that is very rare, now ZTE’s Nubia brand plans to increase this indicator to 24 GB in its new RedMagic 8S Pro model. OnePlus is also expected to take a step in this direction.

At the beginning of July, Nubia will introduce the new gaming flagship RedMagic 8S Pro, according to announcements on Chinese social media. The smartphone attracts attention with a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 2 chipset at 3.36 GHz and the presence of 24 GB of RAM. This is surprising, as Qualcomm previously mentioned support for a maximum of 16GB of LPDDR5X memory for its octa-core chip.

Currently, memory manufacturers Samsung and SK Hynix offer chips with a maximum of 16 GB LPDDR5X or 18 GB LPDDR5, while 24 gigabyte modules are not yet listed in publicly available catalogs. However, with new chips in which the data density is doubled to 16 Gb, smartphones with even 64 GB of RAM will soon become possible.

Nubia has offered 18 GB RAM (LPDDR5) for the first time in the RedMagic 6 Pro smartphone. Asus later joined the trend with the launch of the ROG Phone 5s. Both the smartphones use a chipset from Qualcomm.

The rest of the specifications of the RedMagic 8S Pro are yet to be confirmed. It is assumed that the smartphone will be equipped with a 6.8-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 2480×1116 pixels and a refresh rate of 120 Hz. According to some publications, the model will have 1TB of UFS 4.0 flash and a 50-megapixel Samsung sensor.

Meanwhile, the expected OnePlus Ace 2 Pro will also offer 24GB of RAM. The estimated release date of the smartphone is in August.

Apparently, 24 GB RAM smartphones are close to the market. This will be a significant step forward in mobile technology that will improve the performance and multitasking of smartphones.
