UNSS has started the construction of a photovoltaic park

The first sod for the construction of a photovoltaic park at the University of National and World Economy was broken today by Rector Prof. Dr. Dimitar Dimitrov and Andrey Stoychev from “Prostream Group”.

The construction activities of the photovoltaic installation will be carried out by “Prostream Group”, and the construction supervision will be carried out by “Bureau Veritas Bulgaria”, the university specified.

“UNSS is one of the first universities in Bulgaria to pay serious attention to the implementation of green energy, and the first to sign a contract for the construction of a photovoltaic installation for the production of independent and cheaper electricity. This is extremely relevant, given the energy crises that have befallen us in recent years”, said the Rector Prof. Dr. Dimitar Dimitrov.

“Along with the photovoltaic system, we will also have a new modern indoor parking lot,” added Prof. Dimitrov, emphasizing the specifics of the contract with “Prostream Group”. “This is an ESCO contract, that is, the university does not pay the amount for the execution of the public order, and the costs are paid through the price of electricity.”

This is the first ESCO contract concluded for a project of this scale with a higher education institution, stressed Andrey Stoychev, project manager at Prostream Group. According to him, UNSS can become the first green university in Europe.

During the implementation of the project, Prostream Group will strive to achieve “a balance between renewable energy sources and energy efficiency and the economic justification of the processes”.

The implementation of the project is in two stages, and the investment is in the amount of over BGN 2 million. In the first stage, a rooftop photovoltaic installation and one on a parking lot for the production of electricity will be designed and built. In the next stage, monitoring of the achieved results, maintenance and payment of the investment will be carried out at the expense of the achieved electricity production, which activities are undertaken by “Prostream Group”.

At the opening, a visualization of the project was presented, with which UNSS becomes the first Bulgarian university with a photovoltaic park, contributing to the implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
