Wave He is one of the most beloved villains by fans of Nintendoalthough the specific reasons remain a mystery to many.
There is something in the crazy and unpredictable personality of this cruel antagonist that many players find attractive, and even funny. However, with no main game, there’s a lot we still don’t know about Waluigi.
Something is clear: Wave It’s bad, because even his name is based on an anagram of the Japanese word “Ijiwaru”, which means “cruel”. Also, on his hat you can see the letter “L” backwards forming a “Γ”, showing that Waluigi represents the opposite of the heroic Luigi.
But why is he so popular, being a villain? Well, perhaps it is precisely his rude attitude, accompanied by Fumihide Aoki’s brilliant design, that led to Wave to stardom
The story of Waluigi’s background it is still a mystery. What we do know is the exciting story behind the character’s creation and his journey in the industry to the present day.
Wave He started out as a filler character. It was basically born because the developer Camelot needed another human character to contrast between the cast of animals and monsters in the game. Mario Tennis released in 2000 for Nintendo 64. But different from Wario, who is the antithesis of Mario; Waluigi was created to be Luigi’s Wario, Mario’s brother who in turn was created from the famous plumber.
So Wave it is the result of several layers of rejection of the same character, but it is no less special for that. In fact, Waluigi’s fame has reached all corners of the Internet, and the reasons are still not entirely clear.

Where does the Waluigi fandom phenomenon come from?
Since the beginning, Wave He gained a lot of support among fans due to his personality and irreverent design. Unlike brothers Mario and Luigi who adhere to the strict rules of NintendoWaluigi is a wild spirit.
In multiple spin-off games we can find Waluigi doing mischief and hysterically mocking everyone he can. His cruel and selfish actions seem to laugh in the face of the civilized world. Perhaps it was Waluigi’s rudeness, coupled with his nasty design that fits very well into memes, that made this character amassing popularity among many gamers.
But unlike Wario, Waluigi hasn’t been given his own games, and seems doomed to be a supporting character forever. Year after year, fans of the character have called for Waluigi to be taken seriously and at least be considered as a playable character in Super Smash Bros.
Internet memes exploded when Sakurai preferred to put the piranha plant instead of to Wave, which opened an important debate in the community. Some found this in very poor taste for fans of the villain, while others were of the opinion that there is no room for Waluigi as a main character in the games.
It’s unclear exactly what it is about this irreverent character that draws fans in, but he’s become an internet meme because of the comical disregard in games. This has only increased the desire of his followers for a new game of Wavealthough there is a possibility that the meme will die when that happens.
