Now, a new report claims that may not be the case anymore. The previous report revealed the move by government officials to ban cheap smartphones made in China. The reason for this was to better promote local brands in the country and help them gain a stronger standing in the Indian market.

Currently, the most popular models in the region are mobile phones manufactured by Chinese companies. It seems that this ban on companies may not be implemented. According to a CNBC TV18 report, the government currently has no immediate plans for such a ban.

The report also states that such a ban would take a long time, even if approved by the government. The process won’t be that easy, and one industry expert claims that three out of every 10 smartphones sold in India are priced under $150. 78 percent of all smartphones sold in this price segment are manufactured by Chinese-based brands. This basically means that these Chinese brands have a dominance in this phone category. On the other hand, US brands like Apple and South Korean tech giant Samsung make up only 20 percent of the Indian market.
