Microsoft did its thing promise by adding archive support RAR and 7-Zip in Windows 11, as well as an artificial intelligence assistant Copilot AI. The new features are included in the compilation under no 23493 available in the developer channel Windows Insider Dev Channel.

Testers will notice Windows Copilot in the right sidebar of the Windows 11 desktop. The company promises that the panel will run parallel to open applications without overlapping or interfering with them. So users will be able to turn to AI for help at any time.

Powered by artificial intelligence, Windows Copilot can ask questions that Bing Chat would normally answer. The assistant can even execute some system commands, notes The Verge.

Windows Copilot can also be used to annotate text, similar to the Bing sidebar in the Edge browser, and generate images and text. Obviously, a relevant ad will also be shown in parallel.

Since this is an early version, Windows Copilot is not yet fully functional, and for now users can only control a few basic Windows settings through it. At the moment there is no support for external extensions from the so-called “third parties”.

Windows 11 beta already has integrated support for archive files RAR, 7-Zip, tar, gz and more. At the same time, the company warns that performance problems are not yet excluded, which will be fixed in the next builds of the system in Windows Insider.

Earlier, at the Bild developer conference, Microsoft announced that universal backup support in Windows 11 will be available to users in September. In addition, the company plans to provide not only opening, but also creating archive files, but only in 2024.

Another new feature is the improved sound control interface in the “quick settings”. For example, you can optimize the sound separately for each application, the ability to quickly switch devices and a WIN+CTRL+V key combination that calls the audio mixer have also been added.
